Ever since Amitabh Bachchan captured the imagination of the entire nation with his aggression on screen, the angry young man role is seen something of a touch stone.

Only those who are accepted in those roles generally go on to become big stars.

Rajinikanth in Tamil and Chiranjeevi in Telugu are good examples of that.

So that begs the question who is the angry young man of the Telugu screen these days.

As of now, there are two contenders for that coveted slot.

Mahesh Babu and Prabhas. Both are young, handsome and full of youthful vibrancy.

Apart from the basic parallels, the two have another thing in common: Both come from filmi background.

Mahesh’s father and mother were stars in their own right while Prabhas’ uncle Krishnam Raju was no mean actor himself.

The duo is in the race for the angry young man’s roles. Both Mahesh and Prabhas’s recent films, Athadu and Chatrapathi, have been hits.

The films had lot of aggression in them.

The anger they reflect on the screen is in a sense a metaphorical one that the people have for the system.

The one reflects the most is the people’s hero.

Now, who is that?
