'Arjun' may overtake 'Gudumba'

Bang-bang films continue to do better in Telugu than those in which the heroes do not have larger-than-life roles.
The following are the five top Telugu films:
1. "Gudumba Sankar": Pavan Kalyan's much-awaited film opened to a terrific response in over 300 centres all over Andhra Pradesh. The slide-down, however, had started by the evening. The fans seem to have been disappointed at seeing their star doing cheap tricks with antagonists to win over his love rather than bashing them up to walk away with the heroine played by Meera Jasmine. Kalyan's attempt to create a common man image for himself could go against the film.
2. "Arjun": With "Gudumba" losing steam, Mahesh's daredevil action is again drawing crowds. His personal crusade against video piracy has brought enough publicity, which has also helped the film. Had it not been for the extravagant Madurai Meenakshi temple set created for the film, it would have been making profits by now.
3. "Gouri": This has turned out to be the second hit for Sumanth after "Satyam". The audiences are raving about his stunts. He has taken a chance playing a mass character, going against his image, but has emerged unscathed because of the fast-paced narrative and the love angle. Producer Ravi Kishore should be heaving a sigh of relief.
4. "Gharshana": The realistic cop story is doing well in niche centers since it is backed by good publicity. Besides heralding the entry of a talented director, it has also enhanced composer Jayaraj's reputation. Venkesh's tough looks and Shreya's glamour have proved assets for the film.
5. "Autograph": The film remains a favourite outing for family audiences who prefer clean films. Ravi Teja's soft performance and Keeravani's melodies have kept the cash register ringing. But it has failed to become a blockbuster like its Tamil original.
