Earlier she acted in the modern version of Meena Kumars classic film Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster), and now Mahie Gill will yet again pay full-length tribute to the ravishing late actress in forthcoming Satish Kaushiks comedy Gang of Ghosts.
Mahie will soon don a look similar to the legendary Meena Kumari for a song titled "Dil Apna Fokat" in the film. Paying tribute to the cinema of the 60s and 70s, the song will see Mahie do a Meena Kumari twist reminiscent of her role in 1952s Baiju Bawra for which the actress did extensive research .
Remarked Gill, "Im a huge fan of Meena Kumari and it was a great honour for me to emulate her on screen. The opportunity was in no way less than perfect. I studied her in films like Baiju Bawra (1952) and Dil Ek Mandir."
Said producer Ratan Jain, "Yes Mahies look in the song is on the lines of the ethereal Meena Kumari. Mahie has an earthy charm and looked just the part. She went all out to get into character and floored us with her dedication".
Song and dance, drama, romance, action and even an item number, Gangs Of Ghosts has all the ingredients of a filmy masala as well as some food for thought.
Venus Records and Tapes Pvt Ltds Gangs of Ghosts also stars Anupam Kher, Meera Chopra, Chunkey Pandey and Saurab Shukla. A Hindi remake of Bengali film Bhooter Bhobishyo, Gangs of Ghosts went on floors last month.
