In latest development of Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case, the B-town superstar reported to have been charged with culpable homicide.

Earlier, Khan was put on a trail for a lesser offence of causing death by negligence, for which the actor had to face maximum punishment of two years in jail. However, in a turn of events, the court ordered him to stand trial for the higher crime that would land him in jail for nearly ten years.

According to reports, Salman has been charged with several sections of the IPC, including 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing minor injuries), 338 (causing major injuries) and 427 (negligence). Besides these, he faces charges under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Prevention of Violence, Damage or Loss to Property Act and the Bombay Prohibition Act. Following which, the star had pleaded "not guilty". While the court exempted him from appearing in court on day-to-day basis, he has been ordered to give his presence whenever asked.

In 2008 September, Salman alleged to have driven his Toyota Land Cruiser SUV over five people who were sleeping on street in Bandra; late at night. While four suffered serious injuries, one was killed in the accident.

The trail is slated to begin next month.
