.Gilli: Starring Vijay and Trisha Krishnan and directed by Dharani, this film continues to remain at the top making Dharani the uncrowned king of the box office. He has not had a flop in his career. ‘Gilli’, as you know, is the remake of ‘Okkadu’, a Telugu blockbuster. With its huge success, Trisha Krishnan has become the queen of Tamil cinema, having also starred in ‘Saami’,, last year’s biggest hit.

.Perazhagan: Directed by Sasi Shankar and starring both Surya and Jyothika in double roles, the film is doing better and better with each passing day, mainly for lack of any competition. ‘Perazhagan’ cannot be termed as big a hit as the original ‘Kunjikkoonan’ in Malayalam. Compared to Dileep, who put in a very good performance as the hunchback, Surya, otherwise a very good actor, has acted more like a clown.

.Ayutha Ezhuthu: A lot was expected from the Mani Ratnam film, but it has not lived up to expectation. The main drawback of the film is that the director failed in weaving the three stories together properly. But, compared to the Hindi version ‘Yuva’, ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’ has fared better at the box office. The film is worth watching for the performances of Surya and Madhavan.

.Autograph: Having completed a run of more than 100 days, Cheran’s film still remains among the top few. Now, filmmakers from other languages including Hindi are after Cheran for its remake rights. It is ironical that Cheran had to produce the film himself for want of other producers, and had to act in the film for want of other heroes.

.Arul: The failure of ‘Arul’, directed by Hari, is that every frame of the film reminds people of Vikram’s earlier release ‘Saami’. This is what happens when you try to ‘remake’ your own earlier film, frame by frame: rejection. The film is in the top five only because of the current status of Vikram as a super-hero.
