Today’s films are restricted to Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The silver jubilee days are gone?

All big star-cast films come on good days. Sometimes on Eid, Diwali then business happen. Ask them to come on normal day. It is over now. Many of my movies did silver jubilees Aankhen etc. But today big best film will leave theatre within a month.

Do you think present day is it a dangerous time for the makers?

Today it is a dangerous trend. Both the sides today business has expanded and the salaries have increased. Everything has gone up. But today if something goes wrong with the film then the losses are very heavy. How this corporate take it we don’t know. Some corporate play with their shares. Quality cinema suffers. Now business man has come. They don’t have emotions. If they feel the film is weak they don’t promote. Today you have to be very careful.

Even you have worked with the corporate. Did you face any trouble?

Yes in this film. I have worked as it is my film. No. I never let that happened. I have experience of so many years. Earlier producers used to have emotions for the single screen people. I have made many movies for Vasu ji etc..

Do you miss that period?

Yes. Definitely I miss it. It was fun period.

Your son is also a director now; so is there father-son competition?

Yes yes. He helps me a lot. He is very different. He is a sensible boy. Completed his education in abroad and came. His thinking belongs to today’s generation. He thinks I am wrong.

What do you think of 100 cr club?

In 100 cr the half money goes to theatre. 100cr is the total and 100cr many movies are in loss. The actor who does 100 cr movies will take his money. So spend is also there.

So it is safe to work with new comer as they charge less?

Newcomer pricing is less and its sell is also less but definitely it still do well. See Vickey Donor, Kai Po Che - they all did well.

Any action film you want to do?

Action films I did in begin of my career. Now action comedy works as it is very interesting. Now I want to do different cinema.

Do you think that the comedy trend has changed?

Yes. I feel do it where family audience will enjoy. Now even family audience has changed. Now even child must know few things. You should not hide few things you should be open to it. Then if something more happen then it is an adult film then it is different. Now satellite problem is there then people will be scared to make such films.

What is your take on small films?

There are many small films coming. In the small film the concept should be very strong. It should be new and this can’t be big film concept. Star studded film concept is different. In 100cr films there’s no story there is masala.

Personally what kind of cinema you relate to?

I am an FTI graduate. I was a gold medallist in editing. I have seen foreign cinema. I have seen the best of the cinema. But coming here you have to do film what our audience like. Sometime you start of something like that then while making the producer say make what you usually make.

Have you ever come to saturation?

Yes saturation lot of times. This time it will be different. Comedy is there but i m making with the youth. Such kind of film I never made.

Don’t you think you should try world cinema type movie?

Now it is the time I should do it. But you should get a script that you feel to do it. Defiantly I will not like to do a regular film.

Are you dishearten Rascals did not worked?

Actually the film was for younger lot. Sanjay and Ajay was the wrong casting. But the film was made from the heart.

After making half film director understands where the film is good or bad? Did you felt the same during rascal?

It is suicidal situation. When I do a film I do it with full honesty. Somewhere I feel I went wrong picking up the wrong script. It is like filling life inside a dead body that doesn’t work. But it is okay.. Hits, flops happen.

What is your next project?

Main Tera Hero with Varun. Comedy, action, drama all are there.
