The controversy over the award winning movie 'Celluloid', showing the former chief minister of Kerala , K Karunakaran in a bad light is growing day after day as the state cultural minister and opposition leader has joined the controversy. K C Joseph, the state cultural minister termed it unfortunate and added that history is being distorted. He also demanded the director of the movie , Kamal to apologise for such a portrayal.

Meanwhile, V S Achuthananadan, the state opposition leader termed the minster's stand unfortunate and said that he is encouraging a small group of congressman who cannot see a film as a film. The opposition leader also noted that it is not fair to attack a movie or its director, when the country offers spaces to point out the disagreement over any such portrayals.

Meanwhile a section of congressman staged a protest march to Kairali theatres complex burning the effigy of Kamal, the director of the film.

Karunakaran's son K Muraleedharan and daughter Padmaja, and noted filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishann has already joined sides on the portrayal of the minister as the one who didn't give due recognition to the first filmmaker of the state. Anyhow, t he controversy has helped the movie , a biopic on J C Daniel to gain good collections at the Box Office.
