Srinivas Reddy, the director Damarukam, is basking in the glory of his film's BO hit status. He is thankful to his producer, Dr. Venkat, and says that the film was made on a highest budget. "Despite the fact that release was postponed thrice, there was no fall in craze. The audience were still more excited to watch it. Over the weekend, the family audience are thronging the theatres to watch our film, with a feeling that watching Damarukam is like visiting a Lord Shiva temple," he says.
He attributes the success to DSP in a great measure. "All 10 songs are like jewels. I was told that DSP usually completes the RR in a short time. But for our film, he spent about 40 days on RR."
He claims that the last 35 minutes matched the standards of Hollywood cinema. "I must appreciate the talent of Fire Fly people. Chota K Naidu's cinematography is excellent."
He is all praise for Nagarjuna, who was very determined and patient all throughout. "We shot the climax fight for 15 days. It was a very difficult sequence. He is seen in a new dimension in this film. His Godavari slang is a highlight. Though he used the slang in Hello Brother and President Gari Pellam earlier, we had sittings with Krishna Bhagawan before he dubbed for himself," he says. He liked Anushka and Prakash Raj but Ravi Shankar reminded him of SVR.
"I am indebted to Nagarjuna garu and Dr. Venkat garu for giving me this opportunity. They believed in me and the story. I was successful in making small, comedy films but this success is entirely different. The entire Akkineni family has showered congratulations on me. I am given the opportunity to direct Naga Chaitanya. I have an apt script for him," he says.
"I won't abandon my forte, that is, comedy. EVV garu is my favourite director. I follow his style. I want to imbibe his trend. Dasari garu dealt with all kinds of stories; EVV garu was like him," he says.
