Allu Arjun: 'Mass film' has had a meaning change

It has been the long-held belief that the director will have done his job if he satisfied the fans of his superstar-actor. In fact, it was the opinion of many that Businessman and Racha were films made for the fans of its heroes. It is another matter that Paruchuri Gopalakrishna later lambasted this view, saying that fans alone cannot ensure hits.

In the considered opinion of Allu Arjun, a mass film has had a change of meaning of late. "A film will become successful only if the youth, family audiences and the fans like it. If your film is not liked by any two of these sections, it is not going to help you. If the first two categories like it, the fans will ensure that it will become a bigger hit," he analyzes.

Julayi, which was written off by critics, has gone on to be embraced by the family audience, while a proportion of youngsters have found it to be deserving of one-time watch.
