The influence of Telugu cinema on Bollywood is not limited to remakes of hits like Ready, Dhee, Happy Days and Dookudu alone. These days, our top stars like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu and Junior NTR and others are fetching good profits to the Mumbai-based studios and satellite channels that dub popular Telugu films in Hindi and telecast them during prime as well as non-prime tv hours on week as well as holidays.
Films like Indra, Tagore, Okkadu, Mass and even not-so good ones like Annavaram, have been dubbed in Hindi and broadcast in channels. The popularity of action-oriented films is extremely and specially popular with the North Indian audience.
Even comedies are having the Northeners glued to tv, it is said.
Just, what makes Telugu films special? The nativity is anything but North Indian, the dubbing is sometimes below-the-mark.
It is the plots that they find gripping. Added to it, some dialogues remind them of the good old films of Amitabh Bacchan and his fiery lines. As fireworks fly, Telugu heroes enter their hearts straight.
The dubbing process is, if anything, very back-breaking. The good news is that the costs are not so high and the studios find them very affordable. All that it costs them is anywhere between Rs. 200-1500 per hour to rent a studio in areas like Andheri and Bandra.
