Though the State award jury has ignored Shaji N Karun and his films more than once, the national award jury had always been the best supporters of his worthy films. This time too his ‘Kutty Shrank’ with Mammootty has once again repeated the feat of becoming the best film of the year. With that accomplishment, Shaji has now bagged three best films awards out of the four films that he has done in Malayalam.

The national award winner is now busy with a documentary on the world famous painter M F Hussain. Earlier Shaji's documentaries like Sham's vision also had bagged awards in many festivals. After completing this documentary, Shaji is all set to wield camera for M F Hussain's next directorial venture, to be shot across the world. The movie is expected to kick off by the mid of next April.

Shaji's next venture in Malayalam will be a movie named ‘Gatha’ based on a famous short story by T Padmanabhan. Mohanlal will be in the lead role of this movie, which will have music by Illayaraja. ‘Gatha’ is expected to roll by the end of 2011.
