The 57th National Awards for the year 2009 were announced. Though Telugu Movies didn’t win awards for the Best Movie categories, SS Rajamouli’s ‘Magadheera’ received two awards.

‘Magadheera’ won two awards, namely, Best Special Effects and Best Choreography. K.Sivashankar won the Best Choreography Award for his moves in ‘Dheera Dheera' song and Kamal Kannan won the Best Special Effects for his creative services in the movie.

‘Magadheera’ has been winning acclaim and awards for sometime now. The movie grabbed quite a few in Filmfare and other other awards. Director Rajamouli would be a pleased man, as his movie brought Telugu cinema to limelight this year but he is disappointed with cinematographer Senthil not receiving an award.

Telugu Cinema receiving the National Award for Best Special Effects is not new. Sanath of Fire Fly Digital won the award for ‘Anji’ in 2005.

Let’s hope a Telugu movie receives a National Award for Best Movie next year or in the near future!
