Rajendra Prasad was conferred a title that tells it all. He was given the ‘Natakireeti’ title! What could more be given to an actor who has never failed in making us laugh!

Let us switch to the retrospective mode. Although Rajendra Prasad started his career way back in the late seventies in small characters, he got his recognition a little later. Recollect his small character in Chiranjeevi’s ‘Challenge’, it was only a petty role but would have he guessed where he would be?

Rajendra Prasad’s casual body language made him a comedy material. He was fortunate to work with directors like Vamsi, Jandhyala, EVV Satyanarayana Rao, etc. who’s prowess is comedy. All these directors kept giving him breaks and he was the undisputed king at the box office. Rajendra Prasad created his own style, yet all sections of the audience loved his movies as the characters he acted in oops lived in were able to be connected in real life.

Talking about characters, Rajendra Prasad has acted in most characters that we find in the walk of life. Recall Vamsi’s ‘Ladies Tailor’, a cult comedy movie that brought Rajendra Prasad to the lime light. His body language, dialogue delivery and expressions made the audience laugh non-stop! Later on right from the late eighties till the late nineties, almost a decade, Rajendra Prasad continued to give non-stop hits.

Humour specialist, director Jandhyala gave that elusive break to Rajendra Prasad with a comedy masterpiece – ‘Ahana Pellanta’. Recollect those funny moments where Kota Srinivasa Rao is a stingy landlord and how Rajendra Prasad counters his acts! Even though credit went to even other comedians, Rajendra Prasad had another feather in his cap. Later followed comedy all time hits like ‘Vivaha Bhojanambu’, ‘Jayammu Nischayammu Raa’, etc. Here at this juncture, Rajendra Prasad had another sweet meat in the form of ‘April 1st Vidudhala’ by Vamsi. A comedy thriller, the movie created a new genre! Recollect the beautiful song ‘Chukallu themmanna’ sung by SPB and composed by Ilayaraja!

Rajendra Prasad’s dialogue delivery was flawless. His comedy came straight from the heart. From Jandhyala’s school of humour, came EVV Satyanarayana who created the money minded character Appula Appa Rao! Rajendra Prasad was excellence personified! Many a hilarious moments in the movie make you laugh, just like that! Especially the scenes where he gives loans for high interest! And the famous dialogue ‘A Appa Rao andi?, can anyone forget that? Go in to flashback mode, remember the scenes where he gets money from people who were about to die! Laugh riot that will never be boring even today!

Then followed classic movies like Bapu’s ‘Pelli Pusthakam’, EVV’s ‘Aa Okkati Adakku’ where the famous ‘Goat Comedy of ‘May’’ was incorporated! His character in the movie that of a man, who believes totally in astrology, was shown in a hilarious way! Not just comedy as a solo hero but even in a lot of multi-starrers with other heroes like Jagapathy Babu, Srikanth, etc.

Rajendra Prasad made the entire country laugh with his antics and nonchalant dialogue delivery in ‘Quickgun Murugan’! His walking style, talking style and even shooting style, he was the most talked about hero! Not just the comedian he is, he is a versatile actor! Recollect his heart moving performances in society based movies like ‘Aa Naluguru’ and ‘Mee Sreyoabilashi’. A good actor has the right fusion of seriousness and humour and Rajendra Prasad is undoubtedly one!
