Prakash Jha, the director of the underproduction film Rajniti is vehemently denying that the character of Katrina Kaif has anything to do with the persona of Sonia Gandhi.
The comparison of the Katrina with the Congress party chief evolved due to certain photographs of the B-Town actress.
The snaps which were taken at the location of Rajniti showed Katrina in a totally deglamourised look clad in a simple cotton sari.
Challenging the speculations brought about by the media, Prakash Jha said,
Except Mayawati, so many women politicians such as Jayalalitha and Mamta Bannerjee wear saris. So how can anyone say that the character played by Katrina is based on Sonia Gandhi.
Sonia Gandhi is a lady of foreign origin and so the way she speaks Hindi is quite different from way north Indians speak the language.
The same is the case with Katrina too as her Hindi accent is not of the purest form.
We do not know if Katrinas voice will be dubbed in the film but her speaking style certainly was a factor that led to the birth of the comparison theories.
And it was also reported that in Rajniti, Katrina is giving life to a character who becomes a politician after the death of her husband.
Now that part of the tale is exactly similar to the life story of Sonia Gandhi.
Prakash Jha rubbishing all media reports is nothing new.
Normally directors have the tendency to deny media assumptions.
They cannot be blamed as the reports can play a big role in diminishing the essence and originality of their characters and thus harm the film.
Whatever it is, we have solid reasons to believe that even if Katrinas character is not entirely based on Sonia Gandhi, at least it has been inspired from her life.
Catching up the flick is the best way to find out the truth. So let the film hit the screens first.
