Malayalam superstar Mammootty is going to celebrate this onam in a different way.

On the occasion of Onam, he will donate food items to a thousand families in a Kerala village, Parathodu near Kanjirappally in Kottayam district, which is hit by chikunguniya.

The village which was worst hit by the disease claimed the most lives in the state.

The packets which include rice, pulses and other food items will be distributed by Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, who will be here, next week.

"This is not a publicity event and I would not be going there to distribute it either'', Mammootty said.

He is planning this to initiate such measures from the other celebrities also, so that the sufferers will get a maximum benefit, during the season.

In the last six months, according to official figures, more than 600 people have died due to chikunguniya, a mosquito-borne disease in the state.
