The year saw a lot of films from Malayalam being remade into Tamil and Hindi.

The latest in the section is Malayalam box-office hit Spadikam in which Thilakan and Mohanlal acted as father and son. The film is being remade in Tamil with the title Veerappu.

In the Tamil version Prakash Raj plays the father of Sundar C, who plays the role of Mohanlal in the original. The film is directed by Badri, who has worked as an assistant to Sundar C.

Contradictions between a father and son are the quintessence of the story of Spadikam, now Veerappu. This is the second film in which Sundar C, also a director is playing the role of hero, the first being Thalainagaram which was a runway success.

Gopika will don the role of Urvashi in the original. The others in the cast include Vivek, Santhanam, Vichu, Sumithra and Thejasri.
