Sexy Sam turns 64 today. And the euphoria doesn’t seem to be dimming amongst his multitudinous fans all over the world. Even though he is not celebrating his birthday today due to the ill health of his mother Teji Bachchan (89), the deluge of fans still continue to converge outside his colossal bungalow ‘Jalsa’ since morning today. These fans brought cards gifts from all over India (Many of them have been coming every year for the last several years). Apart from this there have been reports of people worshipping his photographs and praying for his long life. The popularity of Big B continues to soar though he himself in his typical self-effacing style appears to be embarrassed by the hullabaloo around a ‘mere birthday’ as he himself says.

Amitabh Bachchan is one of the biggest mascots of India. He is known the world over, not only amongst a surfeit of Asians, but even amongst foreigners ranging from Britishers, Americans, Dutch, Germans, Kenyans, Indonesians, Malaysians to name a very few. His appeal spreads over three generations. His films like ‘Deewar’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Lawaris’, ‘Abhimaan’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Namak Halal’, ‘Satte Pe Satte’, ‘Dostana’, ‘Parwana’, ‘Anand’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Coolie’ and ‘Agnipath’ have a timeless appeal.

Then there was a time period when he went through a lean period. The fiasco of his firm ABCL, the debt that followed, five year break from films and an image crisis as the public didn’t accept his grown-up-man romancing-nubile-nymphets feature in films like ‘Lal Badshah’ and ‘Chote Miya Bade Miyan’. Amitabh Bachchan weathered that storm with amazing dignity and composure. And then ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ happened in his life. The country discovered its compassionate quiz master with impeccable Hindi and ageless mannerisms.

Big B entered his best phase thereafter. Although he calls himself a character artiste, yet today his name spells class and success. Films like ‘Black’, ‘Khakee’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum’, ‘Dev’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Baaghbaan’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ and ‘Mohabbatein’ re-established him like never before. He is seen promoting all sorts of products on the small screen ranging from hajmola, suiting shirtings, cars, pens, washing powder, batteries, real estate etc. And his list of forthcoming films is amazing too: ‘Cheeni Kum’, ‘Eklavya’, ‘Bhootnath’, ‘Baabul’, Johnie Walker’, ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ etc. The biggest recent news related with Bachchan is his persona as Gabbar Singh in Ram Gopal Verma’s forthcoming ‘Ram Gopal Verma Ke Sholay’. In other words Sexy Sam is Rocking.

IndiaGlitz wishes Amitabh Bachchan heartiest birthday wishes and here’s hoping that he continues to dazzle the world of cinema with his stellar performances.
