All you young gals out there, your favorite Srikanth is back looking like he was when you tripped for him. Having concentrated on action movies for the past one year, he has decided to do romantic subjects this year and for the beginning it is ‘Sathurangam’ a mixture of romance and realism that will soon hit the theatres. Hence the gloomy beard is gone to be replaced by that suave stubble, the arrested hair resilient in action, the brooding look turned soft and the enchanting smile back on place. Is it because the response to his action roles was lukewarm? “’Joot,’ ‘Varnajalam’ and ‘Bose’ were action films that did decent business in the city though there was mixed reaction. But in the suburbs and villages it had a successful run. Now I wanted to have a different dimension and so am doing romantic roles,’ said the star who has moved to his own dream house at Vadapalani.

Another romantic film is ‘Kanaa Kandein’ that will be releasing soon and an untitled film with Fazil to be produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers has also been signed. ‘Pambarakannale’ produced by Amutha Durairaj and directed by Parthy Bhaskar, son of Ilayaraja’s brother has also been finalized. So many movies on the anvil and not any action movie! Has Srikanth bid goodbye to action roles? No says the actor, “I did not want to be typecast in one particular style of acting. But I was getting only soft romantic roles. Hence I wanted to dispel that impression on public’s mind and that I am capable of doing any character, so I took up action roles. Now I wanted to do some soft romantic characters and hence I accepted these films. But after sometime I will take up action roles.”

He always wanted to do diverse roles and avoided falling under a particular image trap. ‘Pambarakannale’ is a full fledged comedy film and for the first time he has tried humor in order to prove his mettle in that department also. He also says that one of his favorite director has narrated a story with a very different subject and he hopes that will take shape very soon. Whatever be it for the next year or so his female fans will be very happy to see their Srikanth looking utterly smart and handsome.

This star also means well for everyone else around him; seldom can we find an actor concerned about humanity. The artiste sympathizing on the havoc of the tsunami had dispatched his team of fans to spearhead relief and rehabilitation measures for the victims and also a handwritten appeal to all his fans to extend some kind of help and assistance to the victims. He insists that every human being’s responsibility is this.
