Awards and Shah Rukh Khan go hand in hand. Over the years they have become synonymous. No award function is complete without Shah Rukh Khan, particularly Filmfare Awards, regarded as the country`s most prestigious award as it is the First Commercial Cinema Awards started by Times of India publication in 1954.
Shah Rukh Khan has received 15 awards, 8 of which are in Best Actor category, a record shared with Dilip Kumar from thirty nominations. Out of the 15, he has won 3 Special Awards; 2 Filmfare Power Awards (2004, 2005) according to the Filmfare Power List and 1 Filmfare Special Award Swiss Consulate Trophy (2002).
What`s more interesting is that besides Best Actor Shah Rukh Khan has won award in multiple categories like Best Debut - DEEWANA; Critics Award for Best Actor- MOHABBATEIN; Best Villain- ANJAAM. In fact for BAADSHAH he was even nominated as Best Comedian.!
However in this years` Filmfare Awards nomination list when his name was missing eye brows were raised.
It may be noted Filmfare's 2015 nominations for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) list includes Hrithik Roshan (BANG BANG), Aamir Khan (PK), Shahid Kapoor (HAIDER), Akshay Kumar (HOLIDAY) and Randeep Hooda (RANG RASIYA).
However instead of being sad or fuming Shah Rukh Khan has taken the decision in the right sprit. Shah Rukh Khan`s in a statement to daily confessed, "I haven't acted well enough in HAPPY NEW YEAR. Yes, the film has done very well but as an actor I don't think I deserve to be nominated."
Though Shah Rukh Khan`s statement is candid and laudable but is there something fishy?
Because if Shah Rukh Khan has not acted well enough and do not deserve nomination than how on earth did he accept the Screen Award as Best Actor for HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Isn`t SRK`s statement diplomatic? Probably like the fable of fox and the grapes when the fox does not get the grapes he exclaims - The grapes are sour!!!
