The Madras High Court Thursday stayed criminal proceedings against Sun Pictures chief Kalanithi Maran, who produced Superstar Rajinikanth starrer 'Enthiran', on a complaint against him alleging offences under IPC and Copyrights Act.

Aarur Tamilnadan, a journalist with Nakkeeran Publications had lodged a complaint alleging that Kalanithi and film director Shankar stole his story and used the same for the film ‘Enthiran’.

Following this, a petition filed by Kalanithi sought to quash proceedings pending before the XIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court against him. Justice C T Selvam admitted the petition and granted a stay on the proceedings. He also dispensed with Kalanithi's personal appearance in the case.

According to senior advocate K Elangovan, who represented Aarur Tamil Nadan, 'Enthiran' was based on his client's story Jugiba, published in Iniya Udhayam magazine in the 1990s. Seeking justice, Aarur Tamil Nadan had filed a private complaint before the court, the advocate said.
