He is popular in the Malayalam film industry with many commercial and critically acclaimed films under his name. He has bagged the coveted Padmashri for his contributions to the field of arts. Married to yesteryear heartthrob Parvathi, Jayaram was introduced to the film industry by his mentor, director Padmarajan.
Though Jayaram has acted in Tamil films from the beginning of nineties, he was able to taste success only with multi-hero projects. The audience saw him play the lead in Gokulam opposite Banupriya and in Priyanka opposite Revathy. Though the films received lukewarm response from the crowd, success seemed to evade Jayaram in Tamil Nadu.
Jayaram received appreciation for his role as Dr. Kailash in the Kamal Haasan starrer Thenali which released in 2000. Jayaram found a berth for himself in yet another Kamal project Panchathanthiram, where he essayed the role of Ayyappan Nair.
These were films which catapulted the stars fame in Tamil Nadu to greater heights. After a hiatus the actor appeared again in supporting roles but roles which were very vital in carrying the story forward.
The year 2008 saw Jayaram doing roles with negative shades (Dhaam Dhoom, Saroja) but at the same time it created a big impact in the audience minds. He also did a comedy caper in the Ajith starrer Aegan.
The actor is now donning the grease paint in a Tamil film titled Sabash Sariyana Potti (SSP), which will see the actor in the pivotal role. The film sees Jayaram in a solo hero subject. If this project becomes a hit then this will undoubtedly be a first for the seasoned actor to make his imprint as a successful solo hero in Tamil.
Directed by Venu Aravind, Jayaram will be a superstar in this film with a huge fan base which ultimately puts the actor in a tight corner. With a perfect sense of timing in comedy we can be sure Jayaram will be able to pull this project off successfully.
