At last, with the World Cup matches and election campaigning coming to an end, some big movies are finally making their way to theatres- announcing the arrival of summer holidays.
'Mappillai', starrnig Dhanush has hit the screens with much expectations, while Prashanth's comeback movie 'Ponnar Shankar' is expected to see the light of the day tomorrow. Also in the race is 'Siva Siva', a film starring newcomers.
'Mappillai' is one of the biggest blockbusters of Superstar Rajinikanth. The film has been remade now, with his own son-in-law Dhanush playing the lead role.
But director Suraj is not ready to accept that the movie is a complete remake. "The script's basic knot alone is inspired from Rajini sirÂs Mappillai. Apart from that, the entire script has been rewritten and many new characters are there," he says, adding more fuel to the expectation fire.
Hansika Motwani is the heroine of 'Mappillai' while Manisha Koirala has played the all-powerful mother-in-law role. Music is by Manisharma and the highlight of the album is the remix of 'Ennoda rasi nalla rasi...'
'Ponnar Sankar' is known to be one of finest works by the Chief Minister and is very close to his heart. When actor, producer and director Thiyagarajan approached him to make a movie based on it, he readily agreed, says a press release.
The movie features Prashanth in a dual role. Divya Parameshwaren, Pooja Chopra (Miss India 2009), Jayaram, Khusboo, Prakash Raj, Sneha, Vadivelu, Seetha, Napoleon, Lakshmi, Raj Kiran and Sukumari form part of its glittering star cast.
Speaking about the film, Thiyagarajan said that the post-production work for Ponnar Sankar has taken almost a year. "About 5000 junior artistes and 1000 other artistes from the Chennai Sangamam, with knowledge of south Indian traditional arts have been roped in for the film. Around 150 horses, elephants and peacocks, have also been featured to recreate the authentic feel of that time period in ancient south India."
