The valentine season has not created the expected hype as most of the romantic films stayed away from theatres. ‘Engeyum Kadhal’, ‘Ko’ and ‘Vaanam’ which were hoped to release this season has pushed their releases by well over a month.

Without them not many surprises this Friday too. Except for the intensively promoted ‘Nadunisi Naaygal’ other films are small in terms of budget and size, but the dreams are big.

Nadunisi Naaygal, Aadu Puli, Margazhi 16, Kadhalar Kudiyiruppu, Thappu and Sunami Sura (Dub) are the films of this Friday the 18th.

Gautham Menon who rocked the Valentine season last year with an emphatic romance ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is out to test your fear quotient this year. Gautham directed ‘Nadunisi Naaygal’ is aggressively promoted on all known media as the only psycho thriller after ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’.

‘Nadunisi Naaygal’ is a kind of an experimental film about a psychopath who unleashes terror in women at night. It’s all about compulsive love and the violence associated with it told with a series of events connected by the protagonists. The film will have four different stories happening in one night.

Sameera Reddy and new comer Veera play the main leading characters along with Ashwin who plays another important character. ‘Nadunisi Naaygal’ will not have any song or music, not even background score. All are real sound. It is a novel attempt by Gautham Menon whose earlier films are known for their brilliant music also.

‘Aadu Puli’ is an action filled family drama starring Aadhi and Poorna in lead roles. The rich cast that includes Prabhu, Ravichandran, K R Vijaya, ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi and Yuvarani raises some curiosity. The music of Sundar C Babu is already popular. The image of Michael Rayappan of Global Infotainment after films like ‘Naadodigal’, ‘Goripalayalam’ and the recent ‘Thenmerku Paruvakkatru’ is also a positive pull.

'Kadhalar Kudiyiruppu' was first titled 'Kavalar Kudiyiruppu'. After objections were raised by the policemen the name was changed. The film is a love story between the son of a police inspector from Bangalore and the daughter of a police head constable from Tamil Nadu living in the same police quarters.

Anees and Shruthi play the romantic pair. Tamil cinema's favourite mother Saranya is in an important role. Avinash and Ponvannan are other known cast. The team claims the film is based on a true story that happened 18 years ago during Babri Masjid demolition. 'Kadhalar Kudiyiruppu' is directed by AMR Ramesh who directed the film 'Kuppi' based on the assassins of Rajiv Gandhi.

‘Margazhi 16’ which will launch the son of yester year hero Bhanuchander may also release this Friday. The film which was going steady in promotions suddenly stopped the activities in some media. However it is likely to make it.

‘Thappu’ as the name suggests is a sleaze starring Vivin, Rani Chadhurvethi and Jeniffer. It is directed by Akkilan. It also has music by Iniyavan. Thoroughly forgettable.

‘Sunami Sura’ is dubbed from Malibu Shark Attack. It is about the survival of people when some prehistoric goblin sharks enters Malibu after tsunami floods and goes hunting humans. For limited audiences only.

The action will be bigger next Friday as two big heroes will be testing their strength. Jeeva’s ‘Singam Puli’ and Dhanush’s ‘Seedan’ are the big films next week.
