Filmmaker Seeman, a staunch supporter of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), converted his 'Naam Thamizhar' movement, a social outfit, into a political party in Madurai on Tuesday.

He launched the political party on a day which marked the first anniversary of the “death of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran”. Launching a tirade against the Central and State governments, he said they had failed to protect Tamils in Sri Lanka.

“May 18 is a black day; a day Tamils can't forget that easily. The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu have let down the Lankan Tamils,” he said in his vociferous speech.

Seeman said he had launched the movement to take up the cause of Tamils living all over the world. “Naam Thamizhar will fight for the welfare of Tamils across the globe. It will contest the forthcoming Assembly elections on its own,” he said.
