Filmmaker Ameer is an actor now, thanks to ‘Yogi’. But he still feels that a director is more important for a film than its hero. “Yes, undoubtedly. A star is created by a filmmaker only. There are no actors without director,” he says.

Saying that he is angry with actors who denied to play the lead role in his films, Ameer says, “I wanted to prove that given an opportunity anyone can be made a star. Hence I decided to don the greasepaint with ‘Yogi’.”

Ameer, who claims that many surprises are in store in ‘Yogi’, is however not ready to reveal it. “Surprise should be a surprise. You will know when you watch. All I can say is that the film is a combo of my style in director Subramaniam Siva’s commercial narration.”

The biggest challenge that Ameer faced on donning the greasepaint was from the director in him who awoke every time he stood before the camera. “Thankfully Subramaniam Siva took charge. He made me feel at ease and extracted the best out of me,” he says.

‘Life in slums has changed a lot. There are many graduates and IT workers living there. We have chronicled the travails of a youth living in one such Chennai slum. The protagonist Yogeshwaran alias Yogi leads a happy-go-lucky life and the events that he comes across in his life make up the story,” Ameer signs off.
