“Preventive measures can help avoid the patients and their families from going through the burden of diseases like kidney failure, diabetes and heart problems,” Kamal Haasan has said.

Speaking at the launch of a website (www.sugarbp.org) hosted by the Balaji Medical and Educational Trust in Chennai Wednesday, he urged the public not to wait for magic substitutes (for sugar or salt) and to adopt preventive steps against blood pressure and diabetes.

“I am honoured to be a part of such an initiative which would act as an important tool in spreading awareness about prevention of kidney disease. I urge all people to go for regular preventive health check ups to identify any possible chronic ailments,” he said.

The website was aimed at raising awareness of the early detection of kidney disease through a simple home-based diagnostic method. It also seeks to help the layman understand the nexus between high blood pressure and diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

Rajan Ravichandran, director, MIOT Institute of Nephrology, R. Sundar, secretary of Hamsadhwani and others took part.
