Directors – turning-actors is no new trend in Tamil cinema. However, in the recent past there are few directors, who have taken to acting for a different reason.

Director Ameer, who is acting in Yogi said, ' I was forced to take this decision because no prominent actors agreed to do my film. I have taken this as a challenge and doing this film'.

Echoing the same is cinematographer – director Thangar Bachchan. 'I chose to act in 'Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy' out of anger. I went from pillar-to-post asked several heroes to do my film. No one bothered to act. Finally, I decided to give it a shot.'

They echoed that the artistes should do quality films for helping the industry gain the goodwill worldwide and also reach out to genuine film-lovers.

Not far behind is director Mysskin. The man, who came out with movies like 'Chithiram Pesuthadi' and 'Anjathey', is enacting the lead role in his next venture 'Nandalala'.

He says, 'the story has no scope for heroes to perform or an image kind of role. Hence I came back disappointed whenever I approached actors to act in this project. I was discouraged by many. I have decided to take it up as a challenge and prove to everyone that meaningful cinema will succeed'.
