At a time when director Priyadharshan's 'Kanchivaram' has been selected for screening in the Panorama Section of the International Film Festival, a beaming Priyan said, 'please call my movie a meaningful one and not an off-beat film'.
Speaking about the film, Priyan says, 'though I am known more for commercial entertainers, the story of 'Kanchivaram' was in my heart since my younger days. When I started my research on 'Kanchivaram', I was stunned. The town has such a rich legacy. It is a beautiful town with over 1000 temples that are filled with life. Finally when I chose to make a movie on 'Kanchivaram', art director Sabu Cyril helped me recreate the town as it was in 1920'.
Priyan is happy that stalwarts of Indian Cinema have heaped laurels on him after watching the film. 'Adoor Gopalakrishnan poured encomiums on me after seeing the movie, while Shyam Benegal said watching the movie was like reading a Leo Tolstoy novel', he added.
'I tried my best to weave the sufferings of a silk weaver from Kanchivaram during the pre-independence era. All credit goes to Prakashraj for playing the role to perfection', he said.
