Chief Minister Karunanidhi has been an avid littérateur in Tamil for many decades. His stories are being made into films one by one. 'Ulliyin Oosai' was based on a short story by Karunanidhi called 'Saarappallam Saamundi'. The success of this film has prompted filmmakers to adapt a novel written by the Chief Minister in 1957 called 'Surulimalai' for film.

Director Illavanil who directed 'Ulliyin Oosai' has been appointed the director for 'Surulimalai' as well.

Says an elated Illavanil, 'I am very privileged to be working on a story penned by Karunanidhi. 'Surulimalai' is a fantastic story highlighting social discrepancies and hinges on the blossoming love between a school teacher and a rustic belle'.

'We have not decided yet as to what the name of the film would be. For all we know, we might even go ahead with the same name' adds Illavanil.

The film will be produced by T. Nagar Seeman and is likely to feature Sundar C. and Sneha in lead roles.

The project most likely will start filming by September.
