Cinematographer- director Balu Mahendra has a special place in the history of Indian cinema. The veteran film-maker is known for his realistic themes and his association with the industry for over three decades has resulted in several path-breaking films being directed by him.

Balu Mahendra recently watched Thangar Bachan's Pallikoodam, at a special screening in Chennai. Elated at the movie, Balu Mahendra heaped laurels on its director Thangar. “It is one of the rare films to have hit the Tamil screen. An off-beat theme narrated in an engrossing manner. All credits to Thangar for his excellent work both on and off the screen”, he said.

“It is a welcome sign to see such movies being experimented in Tamil filmdom”, he added.
