All is not completely well in Tamil cinema. This is because the threats posed by pirated vcds still refuse to die down, despite efforts by the State machinery to curb the illegal practice. Though there are people who prefer watching films in theatres, there are quite a few who opt to watch films in pirated vcds in the comfort of their homes. What they do not realize, perhaps, is the fact that this makes Tamil films and producers incur great losses and this, in turn, would drastically affect innumerable families that depend solely on cinema.
There was even news that the pirated vcds of Paruthi Veeran, the film that is creating waves in Tamil film industry currently, was out even before the film released. Now, after seeing the film in theatres, people opine that such ventures should be encouraged and that seeing them illegally is an offence that has to be dealt with severely.
Prakash Rajs Mozhi has been setting trends in more ways than one. Now, the film is all set to usher in a new trend in the home entertainment front too.
Optical disc maker Moserbaer has tied up with Pyramid Saimira Theatre for retailing its original VCDs and DVDs in theatres that come under the network of Pyramid Saimira theatre. Through this, a new revolution is soon set to occur, as new films would reach the home video format soon and this will, in turn, help combat piracy to a great extent.
The Managing Director of Pyramid Saimira Theatre, PS Swaminathan said that it was time that people started respecting home video and give it due recognition. He also said that this will give piracy a blow. Pyramids chairman V Natarajan agreed with this point of view and said that with this tie-up, movie piracy would soon end.
Let us help stop piracy and support such good endeavors because remember, such ventures deserve it!
