Many new movies that were set for release this Deepavali and after are now re-working their strategy. The apprehensions pertain to the Champions Trophy cricket tournament --- the second biggest one after cricket the World Cup ---- is currently on in India.

The tournament that features all the cricket-playing nations is a carnival of sports.

Whenever such tournaments are on, the other source of entertainment --- films --- take a backseat.

This is a phenomenon world over, and new releases are usually put off.

And that is what is happening in Kollywood.

Many smart producers have decided to wait till the cricket fever ends to release their movies.

This is a very practical decision, and so for this Deepavali we may have just seven movies releasing.
