Historical films are a rarity these days. Hence we thought it would be appropriate to try out a comedy in a historical movie. Thus evolved Imsai Arasan Irupathi Moonam Pulikesi, says director Simbhu Devan, a cartoonist-turned-film director. .

The movie stars a huge team which include Vadivelu in the lead role Nasser, Manorama, Nagesh, Venniradai Murthy and Ilavarasan in the supporting cast.

Produced by director Shankar's S Films, the movie has story, screenplay, dialogues also by Simbhu Devan.

On choosing Vadivelu for the lead role, he says, our ancient rulers resembled a common man. Hence we thought an actor like Vadivelu would fit in. He has done a commendable job.

The whole story appears as a series of cartoons under the same title and it was appreciated by many. We thought it was fine to give the same title, he adds.

A major portion of shooting has been completed and the movie would be released very soon, he says.
