It is a common phenomenon in Kollywood. Father directing a film to bail out his son is more of a rule than an exception in this close-knit industry.

Yesteryear actor Ravichandran is the one playing the caring father now. He is directing a film with his son Hamsavaradhan, whose career has just not taken off, in a bid to get him on stream.

The film has been titled Mandhiran.

The film went to floors Tuesday at AVM Studios in Chennai.

Asked why direction, Ravichandran says "why not? I have acted in several films and seen several directors at close range."

But Ravichandran has another reason for directing a film. "Moreover I didn't come across a right director who would give my son a good break.

Hence I decided to direct the movie myself". "Mandhiran is an action packed entertainer and will hopefully establish my son in the industry."

Hamsavardhan himself has got fighting fit for this movie. He has reduced 15 kilograms of weight besides shaving his head for the role.

Now the question is: Will it all suffice?
