Kollywood has started facing a new problem in the form of lack of members in the Regional Censor board. Due to this at least 12 films that are ready for certification have queued up. The list includes, Dhanush`s Velai Illa Pattadhari` scheduled to release on July 18 and Karthi`s `Madras` that is tentatively scheduled to hit the screens by this month end.
An officer from the regional Censor Board has revealed that the Government has issued a new order starting that no member shall be allowed be a part of the board for more than two years. This has caused to the shortage in staff since it is hard to find eligible officers with less than two years of experience as a member of the board.
The government appoints the members of the censor committee, out of the list eminent personalities from various fields. Every censor committee must have four members (two women and two men) and a regional officer present for a screening.
The officer reveals that out of the present seven, only two are ladies and it is not possible to have them for every screening. So, we are able to censor only one film a day. There are 10 members who live outside Chennai and if they are called they should have to be paid for the travel expenses. But the government has not set aside funds for the same. The officer also assured that the government has also taken started taking steps to sort out the issue.
