Film industry can be a one big bubble.

You never know when it will burst.

Very true, actor Surya will perhaps nod his head in agreement.

Just a few months ago he was the talk of the industry after the high of Kaakka Kaaka. He followed that with movies with big names like Manirathnam, Bala and AVM.

Ayudha Ezhuthu, Pitha Magan and Peralazhagan all won him great reviews. But apparently little else (These movies just about broke even at the box office).

And to cap it all, Surya’s much talked about movie with Goutam menon was also dropped. So suddenly the bubble had burst.

It was not as if Surya was not without films, it is just that he didn’t have movies with high profile names.

Ergo, status quo for Surya.

It is in this situation that Surya’s veritable mentor Bala stepped in. Announcing that he was becoming a producer, Bala has cast Surya and his favorite Jyothika as the hero and heroine of his new movie Mayavi.

Now, Surya is back where he belonged.

Cast in the role of a small time magician (he has a new get-up --- small pencil-line moustache, curly hair, loud clothes), Surya has to pull some rabbits out of the hat to reset the bubble again.

Time to say abracadabra.
