It is now confirmed that Kochadiiyaan will release as the grand Tamil new year attraction on April 14. The film which was earlier announced as a Pongal release backed out of the race due to various reasons. Still the Pongal of this year was a very special one since it saw Ajith’s Veeram and Vijay’s Jilla releasing on the same day.

Now the kollywood buzz is that Tamil New year may prove to be even more interesting since Shankar’s mega budget film Ai, which stars Vikram and Amy Jackson is also trying for a release on that day. If both Kochadiiyaan and Ai release on the same day Theatre owners across the globe will sure have to break their heads to accommodate both the mammoth films that are even bigger in star value and pre release expectations compared to Veeram and Jilla.

However an insider close to prominent distributors in Kollywood has stated that Tamil New year will not witness such a big competition, since distributors have made a representation to the makers of Kochadiiyaan to ensure that Ai does not release on the same day. This is because Kochadiiyaan has been shot using a new technology and the distributors are already skeptical on the audience response for the high cost of the film. In such a scenario, they do not want another biggie like Ai which may affect the business prospects of Kochdiiyaan.
