Oviya the pretty lass from Kerala made her debut in Film industry with the Tamil film Kalavai, directed by Sargunam. The film which went on to become a hit had Ovia playing the role of School student and there was no scope for glamour. However her second film Kalakalappu in which she acted as the pair of RJ turned hero Siva saw her wearing skimpy clothes mainly in song sequences.
Though her first two films were successful, Oviya has not managed to climb up the ladder to reach the slot of a Top Heroine, since all the films she acted further failed to click at the box office.
In a recent interview, Oviya with her outspoken self has cleared the air on everything that fans would be eager to know about herself and her career.
Speaking about glamour roles, the Kalavani girl said that it is the story and the character that determines how she should act. She clarified that though Kalakalappu was a comedy based film, glamour was also needed in the script and that made her undertake the glam makeover. She also points out that her role in that film was received well by the audience.
She went on to credit the film Kalakalappu for making her realize that she is capable for glamorous roles.
On the alleged lip-lock scene in Pulivaal she says that since it was a remake of the Malayalam film Sappa Kurishi, the scene could not be avoided. She says that when the director told her about the lip-lock, she did not hesitate since the script demanded the same. She added saying, When the heroines who have acquired a homely girl image are going in for such scenes, why not me? I do not want to fix myself within a circle and I wish to earn the good name of an actor who will be ready to change herself to any extent for the character. Apart from the lip-lock Oviya appears in glamorous outfits in the songs of this film, as well.
On her frequent appearance in double heroine subjects, Oviya clarifies that it was not predetermined and she has acted as solo heroine in 3 out of 6 films she has acted in Tamil so far. However unfortunately barring Kalavani, the other two films namely, Moodarkoodam and Madhayanaikoottam failed at the box office.
Oviya has categorically rejected that actor Vimal is lobbying for her roles. all those roles in the films we have acted together came my way through the makers and not by the indulgence of Vimal is what she wanted to state for the question on Vimal.
The girl who was born and brought up in Kerala, predominantly concentrates in Tamil films only, She has acted in only one or two films in her Mother tongue. For this Oviya has given a candid reply unlike other actors of her league. If we act in Tamil films we can move on to other big industries like Telugu and Hindi. Moreover in Malyalam industry, the salary we get is very low. Thats the reason for actresses from Kerala showing more interest on Tamil films. Only if we become popular through Tamil films and go back to Malayalam films, people give the respect and remuneration we deserve over there
The bold actress gave out another candid reply when asked whether she would accept offers to shake legs in item numbers. While she has expressed her willingness to dance in item songs or Kuthu songs, as they are referred to in Tamil films and audience circles, she has also pointed out that even leading heroines are confined to the roles that appear only in the songs and they cannot avoid Kuthu songs. Given this, she says she has no qualms in appearing as an item girl, provided the song includes a leading hero
Having completed four years in the industry without getting an offer to pair up with any hero with Star values, Oviya hopes that, soon there will be a big break in her career which will elevate her to a covetable position.
Lets wish this young girl for her dreams to come true.
