It was pretty much predicted last week itself that the opening footfalls of 'War Chhod Naa Yaar' would be in the range of 20%-30%. Well, this is what happened, though the morning shows were much lesser and it was towards the evening when collections improved, hence averaging out to 20%-25%.
It was also stated here that the film had to grow primarily from word of mouth and that too on a very quick basis if it had to leave any impact. Yes, the film did see enhanced footfalls but the momentum wasn't really the kind that would have made the makers elated. Despite no competition whatsoever, the film's weekend collections read less than 5 crore.
Now this doesn't really paint a pretty picture since the film has just five full days for itself, what with 'Boss' arriving on Wednesday. The Akshay Kumar starrer would have a major impact on the screen count as well while also being the first choice of the audience. This means that despite being a well made film with some decent to good reviews coming its way, Bollywood's first war-comedy - 'War Chhod Naa Yaar' - couldn't really cover the distance.
Still, the only consolation that the film can take is that it was better than the other release of the week - 'Baat Bann Gayi'. As expected, the Ali Afzal double role affair couldn't fetch any audience, not just due to its poor content but also a bad release where hardly any screens were showing it. It was always suspected if the film would manage an all-India release and the worst reviews came true with its haphazard arrival. No wonder, the film wasn't even reviewed by most publications, websites and other media forums.
