After Excitement and Outrage, 'Besharam' faces complete Rejection

Oh, what a fall. One doesn't remember when was the last time a film had suffered such a massive fall at the box office after reaching a very good high on its opening. 'Besharam', which had enjoyed a 20 crore plus opening day for itself, saw such a bad day to day fall that despite a 9 day week, it could amass only a little over 55 crore. This translates into a (rude) fact that the film couldn't even triple its opening day collections by the end of it's (long) week. An eye opener indeed!
The film has clearly suffered the poorest word of mouth that any Bollywood flick has met with in not just 2013 but last so many years. With anyone and everyone coming down heavily on the Abhinav Kashyap directed affair, no one associated with the film could come out in its defence (a right move actually, since that has allowed credibility of some notable names intact). In fact the film's box office run has gone through three distinct phases - Excitement on its release, Outrage in days to follow, Disappointment as reality struck, Rejection as word of mouth spread and Ignorance as the week came to an end.
No wonder, despite a relatively open week ahead, 'Besharam' can't really expect to make any further headway. What could have proven to be a boon for the film, what with no notable release in the current week, has resulted in bane for the exhibitors since they have to now wait for mid-week release of 'Boss' to enjoy patron footfalls all over again.
While dust will soon settle down for 'Besharam', here is hoping that all involved do a thorough retrospective on all that went wrong with the film and at least take note of pointers where it was audience feedback, and not media reviews, made all the difference to its eventual box office outcome.
