All the stars of Kollywood gathered under one roof for the audio launch of actor Kamal Haasan's forthcoming venture, Vasool Raja MBBS. The occasion was marked by a variety entertainment show comprising dance, drama and music. The Madras University Centenary Auditorium in Chennai where the function was organized witnessed a colorful fare Wednesday evening with Prominent film personalities including producer A V M Saravan and lyricist Vairamuthu heaping praises on Kamal Haasan.
Vasool Raja MBBS, a remake of Hindi hit Munnabhai MBBS is a hilarious movie on doctors and the Gemini Film Circuit, the producers of the film, lined up a few in doctor's coats and stethoscopes greeting everyone who showed up at the venue. The audience was treated to a splendid magic show by Dilip Raju. It was followed by a small skit on sandalwood smuggler enacted by noted comedians Balaji, Seenu Mohan and Santhi Ganesh.
The highlight of the show was a choreography show by Mohammad Meeran, who played a minor role in Kamal Haasan's Virumaandi. His fire dance and a song featuring live snakes including a couple of pythons evoked a thunderous applause.
The hero of the evening was music composer Bharadwaj, who composed the music for Vasool Raja MBBS. He performed live with his orchestra. He rendered some of the hit numbers of his earlier movies. Finally, it was Kamal Haasan who took centrestage. The actor made his presence felt on the podium amidst a huge applause. The first copy of the audio cassette was handed over by Kamal Haasan to A V M Saravan. While Vairumuthu and A V M Saravanan hailed Kamal Haasan as a peerless actor, director Charan, who wielded the megaphone for the movie said, Kamal had dedicated his life to cinema and it was his passion for the profession which helped him excel. Bharadwaj shared his experiences of working with Kamal Haasan.
Actor Prabhu, who played the lead role with Kamal in Vasool Raja MBBS, said, 'Kamal is the true successor of thespian Sivaji Ganesan. His (Kamal's) urge to do different roles has taken him to greater heights. He recalled that his father Sivaji Ganesan was taught the nuances on acting before the camera by producer L V Prasadh, who had also been a mentor to Kamal Haasan too and it is no surprise that Kamal had risen to great heights in acting.
The producer of Munnabhai MBBS, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and its director Raju Hirani, who took part in the function, expressed happiness that a skilled actor like Kamal Haasan is playing a role in the Tamil version of their film. Amidst others who took part in the function included film directors Dharani and K S Ravikumar, actors Surya, Ramesh Khana, actresses Gouthami and Mumtaz among others.
