Balakrishnan used to be a production controller for director Lingusamy from his "Anandham" and also appeared in important roles in films like "Mouna Guru" and "Naan Mahan Alla".

This production controller turned character artist has now decided to venture into direction. His debut is named "Rummy" and has the "Sundarapandian" pair, Inigo Prabhakaran and Vijay Sethupathi in it. Gayathri is to be the female lead. "The film takes place between the years 1987 and 1990, a time when private colleges weren't a craze as they are today. The heroes, who hail from different villages, meet in a government college and become thick friends. The movie is about their friendship and romances and will have humour and action as well" is what Balakrishnan told about the film.
