The Chennai Corporation on Thursday informed the Madras High Court that it only gave nod to demolish an existing building at the South Indian Film Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam) premises, and not to construct any new structure.

Even the Nadigar Sangam informed the first bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam that no construction was being made at the property in T Nagar.

It is to be noted that R Sukumaran, a resident of Habibullah Road in T Nagar, moved the High Court saying that construction of a multiplex and mall in prime residential area would cause inconvenience to the residents.

After hearing the versions of the civic body and the actors association, the bench directed the Sangam's counsel to file an affidavit in this regard.
