Today (August 17) is the birthday of Shankar. A 'mega director' and a meaningful producer, he has carved a niche for himself not just in Kollywood, but all over India.

It all started with 'Gentleman' in the early 1990s. Since then, there is no looking back for this filmmaker, who is credited with nothing but success.

His Midas touch broke many a box-office record, with 'Enthiran' with Superstar Rajinikanth topping the last. The budgets for his films might be heavy. But the returns they bring are heavier and heaviest, so to say.

At present, Shankar is focusing on 'I', a multilingual venture with Vikram. The film which hit the floors recently is shaping up well, informed sources say.

Vikram will be seen in a different get-up in this romantic thriller, which has Amy Jackson as the leading lady (Earlier Samantha was announced the heroine, but she walked out of the project due to health reasons).

A R Rahman is teaming up with Shankar for 'I' and the duo is expected to recreate its earlier magic. Shankar, a thorough professional that he is, is leaving no stoned unturned to ensure that 'I' turns out to be a complete treat for one and all.
