Lalitha Neelakandan, grandmother of Vijay and Vikranth, passed away in Chennai on Tuesday. She was 80 and is survived by two daughters, Shobha Chandrasekaran (Vijay's mother), Sheela, and two sons (playback singers S N Surendar and S N Sundar).

Family sources said Lalitha suffered from a cardiac arrest following which she was admitted to a hospital at Vadapalani. Despite first-aid and treatment, she breathed her last Tuesday afternoon. She was living with elder daughter Shobha and son-in-law SA Chandrasekhar.

On coming to know of the news, Vijay, who was so attached to his grandmother, rushed to pay last respects. Vijay's cousin and actor Vikranth, their relatives and a large number of friends in the industry also paid tribute to the departed soul.

"After a memorial service at the Nungambakkam Teresa Church, Lalitha Neelakandan's body will be laid to rest at Kilpauk," family sources added.
