The South Indian Film Artistes Association, the umbrella body of actors and actresses in Kollywood, has donated Rs 5 lakh to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, in order to help people hit by the recent Thane cyclone.

A cheque for the above amount was handed over to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by Nadigar Sangam president R Sarath Kumar, in Chennai on Thursday. Also, in his personal capacity, Sarath donated Rs 15 lakh for the cause.

The Chief Minister recently made an appeal to everyone, asking them to donate liberally to help people affected by Thane. Following this, members of the film industry and people from other walks of life have been donating for the cause.

A few days ago, Vijay visited Cuddalore, the district worst hit by the cyclone, and gave away assistance to the victims. Director Thangar Bachan, who hails from the district, has also been doing various helps to the people there.
