A couple of weeks ago, Prakash Jha Productions’ received a letter in their Patna office from an organization called the Dalit Suraksha Samiti. The letter stated that the Dalit Suraksha Samiti was vehemently opposed to the casting of Saif Ali khan as a Dalit in their forthcoming film 'Aarakshan'.

The reason for their opposition was Saif’s background – because he is of Muslim royal lineage. And that according to the DSS, disqualifies him from being allowed to play a dalit character.

What is more surprising is that the concerned parties didn’t put their own address. Finding this outrageous, the filmmaker lost his cool and send out public statement.

Prakash Jha remarked, “The argument of the Dalit Suraksha Samiti is absurd and totally goes against the spirit of freedom and equality. The letter they sent us did not have an address; it only stated that it was from Kanpur.”

“How does one send them a reply without any address? So we thought it best to send them an open letter, and communicate to them through the media. I want them to understand that their opposition to the film is baseless.”

Hope the organisation’s concern is put to rest with this….
