Yash Raj Films Dil Bole Hadippa starring the dynamic duo of Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee, has garnered an international acclaim.
Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film reported to have won the Readers' Choice Award for Best Film of 2009 presented by Ishq - Germany's biggest Bollywood magazine.
The winning film was screened at the Bollywood & Beyond Festival in Stuttgart and drew large crowds to the cinema in the early morning that came to celebrate their favourite film Dil Bole Hadippa. The introductory entries of both Shahid and Rani were met with loud cheers and thunderous applause. This accolade proves yet again that the appeal of Dil Bole Hadippa knows no border and no language barrier. The film has truly captured the hearts and minds of audiences the world over! German fans especially found the film had many of the elements they loved about Hindi cinema - the colourful songs, the fun and laughter, the positive message of female empowerment which is put across with lots of sugar plus the dazzling star combo of Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee.
Other noted films nominated in the Readers' Choice Award for Best Film of 2009 included Billu Barber, Luck by Chance, Love Aaj Kal and Wake Up Sid. Ishq magazine has a circulation of 30,000 copies in the German speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). Most of its readers are not NRIs but German speakers with a strong passion and love for Hindi Cinema.
Dil Bole Hadippa successfully released worldwide on September 18, 2009. The movie is a celebration of the never say die spirit of India. In a village where girls dont play cricket, Veera (Rani Mukherjee) has to put on a turban and beard and become a man to fulfill her dreams. Her brilliance on the field earns her a place in Rohans (Shahid Kapoor) team and Veera Kaur becomes Veer Pratap Singh and what follows is a hide-and-seek game of romance, passion and dreams.
