A bail petition by film director and leader of the Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam Seeman was dismissed by a Chennai Court today.

Dismissing the petition, the principal sessions judge P Devadoss, said, "A reading of Seeman’s entire speech showed that it was provocative and inflammatory in nature, and would create disharmony and insecurity between two groups on the ground of race and place of birth. The speech was in the nature of likelihood of goading the public in general and his followers to involve themselves in violence."

The court had to see the entire material and the speech in totality. Considering all the aspects and the material produced before him and the stage of the case, the Judge said he was not inclined to grant bail.

Meanwhile, Seeman moved a habeas corpus petition in the Madras High Court claiming he had been put in solitary confinement in the Central Prison at Vellore.

The petition said the remanding magistrate had directed the authorities to provide him ‘A’ class facilities in prison but the jail administration shut him in a section which was not in use for the past 20 years. The court ordered notices and adjourned the matter to July 27.
