Mumbai Police on behalf of the film industry conducted a raid in Mumbai and seized over 7889 pirated DVDs and CDs worth around Rs. 8, 00,000
The raid was conducted near the Sakinaka, Borivali and Vidhyavihar station. Around 7889 DVDs were seized at these locations. The pirated CDs and DVDs included last week's release Ajay Devgan starrer 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge', 'Teen Patti' 'My Name is Khan' and 'Toh Baat Pakki' among others.
AA Khan, former IPS officer & Ex. ATS Chief and head of AA Khan & Associates says, "Piracy is a serious offence and one which is rampant within major parts of the city. We along with Mumbai Police are dedicated to the cause of arresting the increase of such activities. However, the job of the police is nullified since the common man goes and purchases movies from such pirates. People need to remember that besides denying the creators of the content their fair share, the proceeds from such sales fund several illegal activities including terrorism in India and abroad."
Four people Sultan Alam (24), Mohd Munaji Ansari (19) Ram gupta (29) Sayyed kammal khan (34), Anwar Mirbaksh Syed (38) have been arrested during the raid. The accused were booked under sections 51, 52(A), 63, 68(A) of the Copyright Act of 1957.
In the last three months there have been as many as 30 raids conducted in Mumbai resulting in seizing goods worth lakhs of rupees and helping the movie industry in curbing the menace of piracy to an extent.
